Monterrey is famous for its glass making
|
| A visit to dynamic Monterrey will dispel
the myth of Mexicans taking siestas and waiting for "Mañana".
The city stretches out across a wide valley floor. Spectacular
mountains surround this bustling and prosperous place.
Although progressive, it still retains its traditional charm.
Hard work, dignity and a respect for close family ties portray the "Regiomontaño"
(citizen of Monterrey). There will be time for shopping and watching glass
blowers create original objects for sale. A buffet breakfast is
included in this fun-filled adventure only three hours away from the Rio
Grande Valley. If you have friends or relatives visiting, this
overnighter is a great way to entertain them.
First Day: Depart from the Rio Grande Valley this morning, clearing
Mexican customs at Reynosa. Thanks to the new toll road, before you can say "Maravillos"
you'll arrive at beautiful Horsetail Falls, a lovely little place of whispering waters and
lush trees. Nearby is the neat village of Santiago with antique buildings
restored to their original charm. It's an oasis for city folks longing for
the country. It is only a few miles to downtown Monterrey. You'll visit the Glass Factory,
Cuauhtémoc Brewery and Museum of Mexican History. Then check
into your home for the evening, the Gran Hotel Ancira and be greeted with a
fiesta
Second
Day: Begin the day with a
complimentary breakfast before a tour of the city including the Governor's Palace, the Cathedral (begun 1603), and other points of interest.
Get an eagle eye view of the city. Arrive in
the Rio Grande Valley around 5:30 p.m.
