The Pueblos Mágicos designation is awarded to relatively small communities that over time have maintained their traditions, culture, crafts, original architecture and gastronomy connecting visitors with Mexico's roots and traditions. A Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town), is a town full of symbolism and legends and many of them have been the scene of relevant events in Mexico's history.
To receive the designation of a Pueblos Mágico by Secretaria de Turismo in Mexico, the towns have to be considered representative of the different cultural, architectural and historic stages of the country. Sectur monitors, promotes and rewards the conservation of traditions and Mexican historical cultural heritage through promoting tourism.
