Tourist Insurance (commonly known as Mexico Insurance)- This type of insurance policy is valid only for tourist visitors driving to Mexico in foreign registered and plated vehicles. Mexico registered, licensed and plated vehicles and Mexican nationals residing in Mexico do not qualify for this type of insurance coverage.
The following is a basic description of risks covered by our Mexico auto insurance policies:
Civil Liability - Coverage for bodily injury and property damage to parties other than the insured and occupants of the insured vehicle resulting from the use of the insured vehicle. Since your U.S./Canadian insurance is not valid in Mexico, this fulfills your "proof of financial responsibility" as required under Mexico law. Insurance coverage is available up to $1,000,000 U.S. Combined Single Limit (CSL) for all damages incurred to others for both property damage and bodily injury.
Physical Damage and Total Theft - This coverage protects your vehicle for the lesser of its ACV or the amount stated on your policy for total theft, collision, overturn, fire, lightning, explosion, and certain natural disasters. Partial theft and acts of vandalism are excluded. Towing expenses are covered in order to move the vehicle to a place designated by the company for repairs, including to the U.S. if agreed by the company. You are required to carry full coverage on your vehicle in your home country to be eligible for this coverage.
Insured Amount - In case of total loss, the company will pay the claim based on the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of the vehicle at the time of the accident. It is imperative that a realistic ACV of your vehicle be determined upon purchase of your insurance policy. Under-insuring your vehicle(s) may result in a financial loss in the event of a claim. Check your vehicle value on NADA.com.
