If you are flying into Mexico and plan to rent a car, purchasing Mexican car rental insurance is one of the most proactive steps you can take to prepare for your trip to Mexico. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, you are required to have liability coverage for your rental car in Mexico. The insurance available at many of the rental car companies in Mexico is quite expensive. We recommend you check the pricing at different companies including the insurance coverage and compare what we can offer.
Your Personal Liability
Most Mexican rental companies offer their insurance coverage. You should consider Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) to make sure you will have zero deductible; this will cover any damage to the rental vehicle regardless of who is at fault. It will most likely be expensive, but it is an expense you should try to include in your travel budget.
Many credit card companies offer coverage for rental cars as a benefit of card membership. Coverage is usually limited to physical damage to the rental vehicle but some include LDW (Loss Damage Waiver). It does vary depending on the country you are visiting, so make sure to verify this coverage before your trip. It is also important to check if your rental car company will accept this coverage and what "proof" they may require.
Third Party Liability provided by the rental car company is, in most cases, null or minimal leaving you with great exposure and risk to be held liable for damages to others and their property. Legal aid and bond will be an additional expense. Check with the rental car company to see what limits they offer and at what cost, so you can compare to the policy we offer.
Check if the rental car company accepts outside insurance. Rental car agencies in Mexico are independently owned and operated and not all accept an insurance policy from outside of their agency. Not all follow the "national" or "corporate" guidelines which you find on the companies' websites. It is important to speak to someone directly at the rental counter in the city where you will pick up the car for you to get a straight answer. Many rental agencies will require for you to purchase the insurance directly from them. Some offer very attractive, inexpensive daily rates to rent the vehicle but the cost of the insurance can be many times higher.
How to Get a Policy
You can receive a quote by calling any of our offices including our headquarters or submitting the online request. To purchase a policy, you must complete and sign an application and return it to the office that will issue your policy. You can download the application or contact us to request the application to be emailed or faxed to you. You will need to email, fax, or bring the completed application to one of our offices in order for them to issue your policy.

Third Party Liability
This is what is required by Mexican law and must be provided by a Mexican insurance company. We offer up to $1,000,000 CSL (combined single limit) liability. It covers you if you are at fault in an accident while operating the rental vehicle. It will cover the damages for which you are held liable as a result of bodily injury to others or damage to their property. Third Party Liability covers the amount that you are legally obligated to pay as damages, up to the amount stated on the policy. This coverage excludes the occupants of your vehicle.
Excess Liability in case of death of the third party
Included in your policy, we offer $150,000 and $300,000. This coverage is in addition to the standard liability coverage you purchase and will be used to cover the required indemnification in the event of the death of a third party. Occupants of the insured vehicle are excluded from this coverage.
Medical Expenses to Occupants
This is coverage for you and your passengers for any medical expenses which the passengers of the rented vehicle may incur in case of an accident. We offer up to $20,000 per person and a total of $100,000 per accident.
Legal Aid and Bailbond
One of the most important coverages in a Mexican auto policy, it will cover the legal representation and cost of bail bonds. If you are involved in an accident in a rented vehicle, this service is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The limit of the bail bond matches the amount of the third-party liability. For example, if a $150,000 USD CSL liability is chosen, the bail bond limit will also be $150,000. Legal assistance will be provided after the case.
Term of the policy
We offer daily policies up to a maximum of 30 days.
Effective and Expiration Dates
Coverage takes effect on the date and time you specify as indicated on the face of the policy and once the insured has rented their vehicle at their destination in Mexico. The Expiration date is expressed on the face of the policy as well. Policies run in 24-hour intervals so the policy will expire at the same time it starts. If you are not able to return the vehicle by that time on the last day you are renting, you will need to purchase an extra day of coverage. If you extend the car rental period, you will need to notify your Insurance Agent to purchase a policy for the additional days.
Claims

Refund Policy
If you are unable to use your policy for any reason, you must notify your agent or Sanborn's headquarters before the start of the policy to receive a full refund. Notification can be made by phone or email. If we are notified after the policy starts, you will have to provide proof that you purchased other insurance and the refund will not include the policy fee charged on your policy.
